Recent Eurostat surveys on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) among individuals and households document the spread of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) in Europe, offering critical insights for Greece as well.
At the EU level, in 2025, 32.7% of individuals aged 16–74 reported using generative AI tools in the past three months. This usage is primarily for personal purposes (25.1%), while significantly lower rates are recorded for professional use (15.1%) and education (9.4%). These figures indicate that GenAI has already become integrated into citizens’ daily lives, though it has not yet been fully translated into productive use in the workplace or education.
According to the same Eurostat data, Greece shows high penetration, as approximately 44% of citizens have used generative AI tools—a percentage higher than the EU average. This performance places the country in the “advanced users” group, alongside countries such as Denmark, Finland, and Estonia.
The picture is even more striking among younger age groups. In the 16–24 age group, 83.5% of young people in Greece use generative AI tools—the highest rate in the EU, compared to 63.8% at the European level. Young people use technology mainly for personal purposes (44.2%) and education (39.3%), while professional use remains limited and comparable to that of the general population.
Overall, Eurostat data show that Greece exhibits a particularly high adoption rate of generative AI, especially among the younger generation. The main challenge now is not access, but the transition from widespread personal use to a more systematic and productive use of technology in the workplace and the economy.
